Water Main Break: Polk Elementary Students Moving to Patrick Henry

Students are switching schools due to a water main break north of Taney Avenue.

An emergency alert from Alexandria City Public Schools says that due to a water main break near James K. Polk Elementary School, "students and staff will evacuate to Patrick Henry Elementary School for the remainder of the school day and be dismissed from Patrick Henry at normal dismissal time."

The water main break occurred on N. Pickett Street Tuesday morning between Taney and Polk avenues, leaving dozens of residents and Polk Elementary School without water. See: N. Pickett Street Closed Following Water Main Break.

A repair person on the scene on N. Pickett Street this morning said the break appeared to be significant and would take all afternoon to repair.

The alert from ACPS also said:

Walkers will return to Polk with their teachers and walk home as normal.

Bus riders will be picked up at Patrick Henry and taken home as normal.

Students who attend Campagna Center after-school programs will remain at the Campagna Center at Patrick Henry and will need to be picked up there by their parents.
