Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Winchester area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.

Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.


1. Alex Limoges (Ice Hockey)

Winchester native Alex Limoges has emerged as a rising talent in professional hockey and is currently signed with the Washington Capitals. A standout at Penn State University, he served as team captain and tied for first in NCAA scoring during the 2018-19 season. Limoges has since excelled in the AHL, helping the Hershey Bears secure back-to-back Calder Cup championships. Known for his scoring ability and leadership, he continues to make his mark in professional hockey and remains connected to his roots through the Washington Little Caps program.

2. Emily Harman (Tennis)

While Emily Harman was born in Petersburg, West Virginia, her tennis journey was shaped by years of training with coach John Dokken in Winchester. A natural athlete, she dominated multiple sports before excelling in tennis, earning a full scholarship to Syracuse University. As a three-time All-Big East selection, she became a cornerstone of the program, leading Syracuse to its highest ranking at the time. After competing on the WTA and ITF circuits, Harman transitioned to coaching at West Virginia University before pivoting to a new passion—medicine. She attended medical school at Dartmouth and is now a staff member at Duke University School of Medicine.


3. Douglas Creek (Baseball)

A dominant left-handed pitcher, Doug Creek carved out a nine-year MLB career after starring at Georgia Tech. Originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, he later played for teams including the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers. Transitioning to relief pitching, he became one of the game’s most reliable lefty relievers, making 279 MLB appearances. After retiring, Creek pursued his passion for fishing, launched his own charter business and coached young athletes in baseball.

4. Jaliah Jackson (Basketball)

A standout player for Millbrook High School, Jaliah Jackson has made a name for herself as a dominant forward/center. She played a pivotal role in leading Millbrook to the Virginia state championship game as a freshman, an experience that shaped her competitive spirit. Inspired by her brother, Taralle, Jackson continues to refine her game as she prepares for college, where she plans to study law.


5. Lang Campbell (Football)

Winchester’s Lang Campbell left an indelible mark on William & Mary football, leading the team to a historic NCAA National Semifinals appearance in 2004. That season, he set multiple school records and won the Walter Payton Award, given to the top offensive player in Division I-AA football. After college, he signed with the Cleveland Browns, later playing in NFL Europe and the Arena Football League before retiring due to injury. Campbell transitioned into a successful career in technology and finance, also serving as a board member for Project HOPE’s global health initiatives.
