  1. Virginia Youth Ballet and its members will be presenting "Beauty and the Beast" this coming weekend in downtown Winchester on Saturday and Sunday. There will be two Saturday showings and one Sunday show at the Academy of Ballet. Tickets are available online and at the door at $10 per person. (The Winchester Star)
  2. Virginia State Police reported that they apprehended a suspect on Friday who allegedly ran from police when he was pulled over for speeding on Thursday. The suspect, Winchester local Wilson E. Buckingham Jr., was wanted in multiple jurisdictions. A female passenger was also detained during the initial traffic stop but has since been released from custody. (theriver953.com)
  3. Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart and the other three Winchester Elementary Schools pre-K classes received some adventurous learning last week. Several master teaching artists from Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts visited the school to teach students about nature and wildlife through the use of imagination, reading, and counting. The weeklong visits were funded by a $15,000 state grant. Next year, the school said that it hopes the program can expand to include kindergarten students. (The Winchester Star)

  • The Jim Barnett Park Recreation Center will be hosting a Regional Hiring Event on May 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be hiring managers from over 80 companies, professional development workshop opportunities, and more.   • The free vaccine clinic for students in seventh through 12th grades is today, Apr. 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Daniel Morgan Middle School Gym. Please remember that school vaccines are required for students of these ages, and students getting vaccines must bring a parent or guardian, a vaccine record, and their insurance card.
