📰 News we're reading

1. Joint Judicial Center to close Cameron Street entrance in 2026 (winchesterstar.com) — If you visit the Winchester/Frederick County Joint Judicial Center next year, you’ll have to use the Kent Street entrance, as the North Cameron Street public entrance will close to improve security starting Jan. 1. Winchester Sheriff William Sales says concentrating all public access at one door will allow more deputies to monitor visitors and reduce the risk of weapons or other prohibited items slipping through.

2. Box Tree Moth quarantine (theriver953.com) — A new state quarantine now covers the City of Winchester, restricting movement of boxwood plants because an invasive box tree moth is established here and in nearby counties. If you grow, sell, or move boxwoods, you may need a free VDACS permit or compliance agreement, and residents are urged to report any suspicious boxwood damage through the state’s invasive species reporting tool.

3. Golf Coach of the Year: Handley's Troy Mezzatesta (winchesterstar.com) — Handley High School’s golf team capped a strong 2025 season with another top-four regional finish and four All-Area selections, earning coach Troy Mezzatesta his fourth Winchester Star Golf Coach of the Year honor in five seasons. Mezzatesta credits the Judges’ competitive mindset, senior leadership, and rapid improvement from younger players for the program’s depth and consistency.

4. The Father-In-Law Of Olympian Dominque Dawes Is Missing (sportscasting.com) — A 79-year-old man last seen in Winchester has been missing since Monday, and his car was later found abandoned near Roanoke with a flat tire. Olympian Dominique Dawes is urgently asking the public to help locate her father-in-law, who has medical issues, by sharing his photo and contacting 911 with any sightings.
