Here are the top three stories in Winchester today:

  1. The Winchester Fire and Rescue Department personnel paid their respects to Deputy Chief Lauck during the funeral procession on May 1. The department lined the 37 overpass as the procession passed. Deputy Chief Lauck was laid to rest at Shenandoah Memorial Park. (Winchester Fire and Rescue Department via Facebook)
  2. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public comment on the transportation issues on the US-50 corridor from VDOT Area HQ entrance in Frederick County to Keating Drive in Winchester.   3. Winchester's second "pick-up party" will take place on May 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Whittier Park, located off Amherst Street on Whittier Avenue in Winchester. Attendees can come dressed in the "Cosmic Cleanup" or space-related theme and participate in activities to accumulate points for prizes. The Community Cleanup event helps keep Winchester beautiful while having fun. (City of Winchester)

  • The Winchester Parks & Recreation Department (WPRD) announced that the Rec Center and War Memorial Building will be closed on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 for the Apple Blossom Festival.
