5 Woodbridge Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season
From food assistance to programs for people with disabilities, here are some causes that could use a helping hand this Giving Tuesday.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — If you’re like many of your Woodbridge neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Woodbridge area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
1. Prince William County Community Foundation: This nonprofit aims to improve the quality of life in Prince William County. Some of its programs are the C.H.O.W. Wagon to provide food assistance to children, scholarships, grants for teachers, a health initiative, Prince William County Gives and more.

2. SPARK: SPARK, or Supporting Partnerships and Resources for Kids, is the educational foundation for Prince William County Public Schools. It works with community and business partnerships to provide programs to the school division, scholarships, school supply drivers and more.
3. StreetLight Community Outreach Ministries: This nonprofit runs the supportive shelter for people with medical challenges or disabilities plus the current hypothermia shelter during the colder months. It also has a supportive housing program, homeless prevention program, food pantry, weekly dinners for the homeless, a clothing closet and more services.
4. Keep Prince William Beautiful: Started as a spring cleanup, the nonprofit joined the Keep America Beautiful network. Keep Prince William Beautiful focuses on promoting volunteerism and environmental programs like community cleanups, water quality efforts and more.
5. ARC of Greater Prince William: Programs and advocacy for people with disabilities is the focus of this nonprofit. The nonprofit offers adult day support services, residential programs for people with disabilities, child care and more. It is also hosting a Giving Tuesday Tree Drive to help decorate residents' homes for the holidays.
