Man's Shooting Into Woodbridge Home Targeted Woman: Police

Police say the man sent threatening texts to the woman before the shooting of a home she was at.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man had sent threatening texts to a woman before a shooting that struck a Woodbridge home while she was inside.

The gunshots incident had been reported around 10:51 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Commons on Williams Square Condominiums in the 1800 block of Cedar Cove Way. Police say a single gunshot struck a residence. No injuries were reported.

An investigation revealed more about the shooting and led to an arrest. According to police, the suspect, identified as D’Avion Ervin Smith, 26, of Woodbridge, had an ongoing dispute with a 25-year-old woman. Smith sent the woman threatening texts leading up to the shooting. The woman was at the home during the shooting.

Police obtained multiple arrest warrants for Smith and arrested him Tuesday at his Woodbridge home. He was charged with one count of discharging a firearm at a dwelling, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of discharging a firearm in a public place, one count of stalking, two counts of felony destruction of property, and one count of making threats in writing.
