Autistic Woodbridge Teen Gets Photo On Lidl Peanut Butter
Eric "Bean" McKay, the Woodbridge teen with autism who won a lifetime supply of Lidl peanut butter, soon will have his photo on the jars.
WOODBRIDGE, VA—Remember Eric "Bean" McKay? He's the area teenager with autism who won a lifetime supply of Lidl peanut butter in January after winning a wager with the international grocer. Now he's going to find himself on jars of the very product he so adores.
Beginning April 10, in honor of National Autism Awareness Month, Lidl will introduce a limited edition peanut butter with the 15-year-old's photo on the jar. It'll be called Lidl "Beanut Butter." The company will donate 10 cents of every sold to the Autism Society. It'll be sold at all Lidl stores in the country.
And beginning April 11, Lidl will hold sensory evenings every Thursday from 6 p.m.-close that will feature "reduced lighting, noise, music and in-store announcements, lowered scan volumes at checkout lanes (and) priority checkouts. . ."

Not only is @LidlUS working with @BeanPhilosopher to benefit @AutismSociety with #BeanutButter but Thursday nights from 6-10 stores will reduce ambient noise, no music, lower lights & additional staff to minimize lines to make shopping more comfortable for sensory folks. pic.twitter.com/ekvvvThb3e

During the Lidl grand opening at 16601 Dumfries Road, his mom bought 72 jars of peanut butter at a special reduced price. (Lidl peanut butter is his favorite food, and he eats it for breakfast, lunch and dinner). After going through those, McKay took to Twitter last October and displayed the 72 empty jars. Lidl responded to the tweet, gave him another 72 jars and "upped the ante," by challenging him to get 72,000 retweets for a lifetime supply of peanut butter.
Once he reached his goal and was pledged the lifetime supply of Lidl peanut butter, he decided to donate some of it to furloughed government workers, one of whom was is dad.
