The bridge repair on is going to take a while.

According to a post on Woodbridge Supervisor Frank Principi’s website Wednesday, the bridge will need to be totally replaced.

“The estimated cost to replace the bridge in kind is around $1 million. We have started working on the emergency contract, there are a couple of unknowns such as affected utilities and available right of way for construction activities, though our goal is to have the contract in place within the next few weeks,” reads the post.

The bridge was deemed unsafe by Virginia Department of Transportation on Jan. 9. A detour has been posted for drivers to take Route 1. Severe weather has been attributed as the issue that most likely damaged the bridge.

Because of the bridge’s current condition, it will be closed until the new bridge is in place; construction is expected to done by the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
