The Department of Public Works beckons you to the days when Woodbridge was still the country. Join us on Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a trip back to the 1920s, 30s and 40s when Rippon Lodge was owned by Judge Wade Ellis and his wife, Dessie. Come for an old fashioned lawn party just like the Judge and Dessie used to host when they left the heat of Washington, D.C. to enjoy the quiet, fresh air of their country home.
- Learn the steps to the popular dances of the time.
- See antique cars of the era, including a 1922 Ford Model T, 1931 Ford Model A and a 1936 Buick.
- The 51st Engineers, a WWII reenacting group, will be on site with equipment, uniforms and a jeep.
- Watch exhibition baseball by the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Baseball League. They play the game using 19th century rules and equipment – no gloves!
- Tour the house and grounds and learn about the Judge and Dessie.
- Food, music and much more will be ongoing through out the day.
The fee is $7 per person and free for children under six. No reservations are required. The program is weather dependent. Call 703-499-9812 for more information.
