Local Groups to Host Thanksgiving Dinner for Holly Acres Flood Victims

Families will receive donations.

  • From B-thrifty:

Heading into the holiday season, members of the Woodbridge community have joined together to host a Thanksgiving Dinner for the families from the Holly Acres mobile park who lost their homes in the September flooding. The dinner, featuring a traditional holiday feast of turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, yams and desserts, as well as kids’ activities, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harbour View (13200 Marina Way) in Woodbridge.

“We felt compelled to help the families during the holidays, especially since so many are still without homes,” said Alonso Zamora of B-thrifty in a prepared statement. “We are very grateful for the outpouring of support from companies, organizations and individuals who have stepped up and offered to help with the dinner.  During our outreach, it was never whether people would consider helping; it was always asking how they could help.”

The cost of the dinner is being covered by The Salvation Army Prince William County VA Corps and Kitchen Gourmet & A Company of Caterers. Groups such as B-thrifty, Woodbridge Workers Committee, the Belmont PTA, Potomac Crest Baptist Church, Feed Me Ministry and Professional Collision Center are pitching in with all other aspects of the evening, including preparing desserts, donating beverages, providing all the paper goods and volunteering to organize and run the event. Harbour View has donated the use of their facility space, while is giving new sets of dishes to all the families and contributing 10 new dressers. Goodwill of Greater Washington is providing $1,000 worth of gift certificates to its area retail stores. Additionally, B-thrifty is donating 10 percent of all store sales from Nov. 15 through Nov. 21 to aid the families.
