New Potomac Mills Sign Construction Underway In Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, VA—Restoration of an Interstate 95 landmark of sorts officially has begun. We're talking about the towering Potomac Mills sign, that paean to capitalism brought down last March after a windstorm left it badly bent and a potential safety hazard.
The newly designed sign, which alerts drivers to the presence of Virginia's largest retail outlet mall, will be 140 feet tall, 46 feet wide and weigh approximately 31,000 pounds. Last March 2, high winds caused the supporting posts to bend, and the structure was removed two days later. Portions of southbound I-95 were closed to traffic for two days during the process.
"The Potomac Mills sign that stands tall on I-95 has been a staple in our community for many years," Jen Snitselaar, general manager of Potomac Mills Mall, said in a release. "The new design and updated structure will give the sign a new feel, while still honoring the tradition it brings to the area."
