New Woodbridge Area Elementary School Opening To Be Delayed
Prince William County Public Schools said the review process and re-routing of a sanitary line contributed to the delay.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — The opening of a new Woodbridge area elementary school will be delayed, Prince William County Public Schools announced Wednesday.
The school is being constructed near the intersection of Route 1 and Prince William Parkway close to Fred Lynn Middle School. It was originally scheduled to open in the 2025-2026 school year, but now it will open in the 2026-2027 school year.
PWCS attributed the delay to several factors: six extra months of the review and approval process that included flood plain considerations, re-routing of a sanitary line found 20 feet underground, and summer 2025 work at Fred Lynn Middle School to re-work the shared main entrance, add utilities and add new curb and gutter.

The school system said it would move to the next school year to avoid mid-year disruptions. The school is being designed by Moseley Architects and constructed by V.F. Pavone Construction.
A school renaming committee is expected to provide school name suggestions to the Prince William County School Board before the school's opening.
