PRTC Sees Ridership Increase

Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission announced Wednesday that 2011 was a memorable year, citing the largest ridership increase in three years.

By the numbers

PRTC serves Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park and in 2011 more than 3.4 million passengers took the bus. That's a seven percent increase in 2010. 

• OmniRide and Metro Direct carried 2.3 million passengers, a six percent increase since 2010
• OmniLink and Cross County Connector carried one million passengers, a nine percent increase since 2010.
• Combined, ridership is at a largest annual increase since 2008 when gas prices passed $4 a gallon. 

Celebrating a milestone

In September of 2011, PRTC celebrated its 25th anniversary and hit a ridership record of carrying more than 15,000 passengers on one day. That number increased again on Oct. 25, 2011 when PRTC carried 15,478 passengers. 

“This continuing ridership growth demonstrates the value of public transportation and ridesharing in the communities we serve,” said PRTC Executive Director Alfred Harf in a press release. 

PRTC said in a recent satisfaction survey that 81 percent of OmniRide riders and 74 percent of OmniLink riders said the overall services are excellent.
