School Attendance Zone Changes Possible With New Woodbridge, Potomac Shores Schools

Prince William County Public Schools says it will have a redistricting process due to two new schools opening in the coming years.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — To prepare for the opening of two new elementary schools, Prince William County Public Schools will conduct a redistricting process to determine if school attendance zones should change.

The not-yet-named “Woodbridge” elementary school is scheduled to open in the 2026-27 school year, and the “Potomac Shores” elementary school will follow in the 2027-28 school year. As enrollment grows, the school system says it can balance enrollment, reduce overcrowding and make efficient use of all school facilities with the two new schools.

PWCS has identified elementary schools that could be affected by redistricting: Covington-Harper, Dumfries, Fitzgerald, Henderson, Kilby, Mary Williams, Pattie, Potomac View, River Oaks, Swans Creek, Triangle, and Vaughan Elementary Schools. The school system says the list reflects schools where changes are possible but not definite. Families at the school are being notified of the redistricting process.
