Three Businesses Coming to Marumsco Plaza
Business pad sites will be built along Route 1
In Tuesday’s Board of County Supervisors meeting, three Marumsco Plaza businesses were approved for special use permits.
A Walgreens Pharmacy will be taking up residence on the site of the building, with a BB&T bank next door. The Walgreens and BB&T will be on the southern portion of the Marumsco Plaza, near East Longview Drive.
A third business, Pollo Campero – a self-described Latin-flavored chicken drive-thru restaurant – would be further north along Route 1 in the strip before the Wells Fargo building.

The existing Five Guys building will be removed to make way for a Walgreens pharmacy. Of the three special use permits for Walgreens Pharmacy, BB&T and Pollo Campero, two would have sign modifications. All three businesses have been coordinating on a brick architectural theme that would be consistent with the updated Marumsco Plaza strip mall facade.
Woodbridge Potomac Communities Civic Association chairman John Karhnak spoke in favor of the improvements being made to Marumsco Plaza.

“The revitalization of Marumsco Plaza can be a trendsetter and a gold standard for North Woodbridge. We see lots of improvements along Route and improvements to Route 1 itself,” said Karhnak. “We encourage the plaza to set their sights high as one to be envied and copied as others are redevelopment.”
Karhnak also encouraged the use of pervious space to prevent storm water runoff and improved pedestrian access.
“We are all very excited about the revitalization of Route 1,” said Woodbridge District supervisor Frank Principi. “The coordination has resulted in, I think, a better look and feel for all the businesses.”
All of the businesses would use existing access to Route 1, there would be no additional entrances to Route 1.
