Speed A Factor In Crash That Killed Woodbridge Woman, Police Say

A Woodbridge woman died when the car she was a passenger in was struck. Police said speed by the other vehicle may have been a factor.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge woman died when the car she was a passenger in was struck, and Prince William County Police said speed by the other vehicle may have been a factor in the crash.

The victim was identified as Evangelina Castro, 32, of Woodbridge. The drivers names have not been released.

Authorities said Castro was a passenger in a 2008 Honda Civic about 7 p.m. Monday when it was involved in a crash at the intersection of Dale Boulevard and Barksdale Street in Woodbridge.

The driver of the 2008 Honda was eastbound on Dale Boulevard, and the driver of a 2020 Honda Civic was westbound. With a flashing amber traffic signal, the driver of the 2008 Honda began to turn left across the westbound lanes of Dale Boulevard toward Barksdale Street, and the vehicles collided, Prince William County Police said.

Castro was extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital, where she later died, a press release said.

The driver of the 2008 Honda was a 34-year-old man from Woodbridge who was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the 2020 Hondo was a 23-year-old man, also from Woodbridge. He remained at the scene and was not hurt.
