Woodbridge Man Trying To Catch Loose Dog Killed In Dumfries Road Crash

A Woodbridge man died from his injuries after being struck by a car while catching a loose dog in traffic.

MONTCLAIR, VA — A Woodbridge man died in a crash while he was watching a loose dog Friday in the Montclair area, according to Prince William County Police.

The crash happened around 5:46 a.m. Friday on Dumfries Road near Old Stage Road. Police say the man was attempting to catch a loose dog running in traffic. Once the man caught the dog, he was struck by a vehicle while walking across Dumfries Road. The striking vehicle was a 2022 Ram ProMaster van that heading west on Dumfries Road near Old Stage Road.

An officer and Good Samaritan provided first aid before the man was taken to the hospital. He died of his injuries at the hospital. The dog, a 2-year-old Dalmatian/Pointer mix, was treated for injuries and was released to the owner.

Police have not announced charges against the driver, a 45-year-old man from Woodbridge. Police say the victim was wearing dark-colored clothing and crossing outside of a crosswalk in an unlit area.
