1. 2026 New Year's Eve Events in Grays Harbor County (graysharbortalk.com) — Aberdeen golfers can kick off 2026 at the New Year Mulligan Tournament on January 1 at Grays Harbor Country Club on Central Park Drive. Across the county, residents will find bar crawls, casino nights, fireworks, clam digs, and a big bash in Ocean Shores to celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Be sure to confirm times and any tentative clam-dig dates before heading out.
   

2. Olympia man injured after driver crashes into trooper's vehicle in GHC (thedailyworld.com) — An Aberdeen driver is accused of failing to yield and crashing into a Washington State Patrol vehicle on state Route 107 near the Chehalis River, injuring a trooper from Olympia. A Cosmopolis woman riding with the Aberdeen man was hurt but declined hospital treatment, while another Aberdeen passenger and the trooper cadet were uninjured. The injured trooper was taken to Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma.
   

3. Rita Joan Frey (columbiabasinherald.com) — Rita Joan Frey, who helped raise a large family in Hoquiam and Aberdeen after moving there with her husband Gary, has died at 89. She was known locally for her home décor shop, musical theater work with Driftwood Players, and fundraising performances for Grays Harbor Hospital. A memorial service is planned for April 24, 2026, in Moses Lake.
   

4. Girls Prep Wrestling Roundup: Multiple Twin Harbors prep teams open season at weekend tournaments (bellinghamherald.com) — Aberdeen High School’s girls wrestlers opened their season strong at the Lady Jag Kickoff in Puyallup, with freshman Xela Kowoosh and several Bobcats earning podium finishes. Twin Harbors programs from Hoquiam, Ocosta, Raymond-South Bend, North Beach, Elma, and Montesano also turned in impressive results at multiple weekend tournaments, highlighting a deep field of local talent on the mats.
   

5. Major floods sweep Western WA; Skagit River set to shatter record (bellinghamherald.com) — Western Washington is facing major flooding, and Grays Harbor officials report a dam near Lake Sylvia State Park, just east of Aberdeen, is under increasing stress after heavy rains. While the dam has not failed, continued storms could worsen conditions, and the county remains under flood warnings as rivers and roads across the region strain under record-breaking rainfall.
