Motorcyclist Killed, Child Hurt In Fatal Crash Outside Lacey: WSP

Drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash that killed a 33-year-old biker and injured an 8-year-old east of Lacey Tuesday night.

LACEY, WA - Washington State Patrol say drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in a fatal collision Tuesday night that also injured an 8-year-old outside Lacey.

Christopher Ryan Chance Wade, 36, of Lacey, is currently being held at Thurston County jail on charges of reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, and vehicular homicide. He is not eligible for bail.

According to WSP officials, Wade was traveling east on State Route-510, near Rockcress Drive, with his three children, ages 11, 8, and 1, around 8:30 p.m. April 9. At the same time, an unidentified 33-year-old motorcyclist was traveling west on a blue 2004 Yamaha YZFR6 in the same area.

As Wade attempted to turn left onto Rockcress Drive, the motorcyclist collided with Wade's red 2004 Mazda 3 in the intersection, totaling both vehicles. Police said Wade failed to yield.

The motorcyclist appears to have died at the scene. The 8-year-old in Wade's car was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with unspecified injuries.

The roadway was reportedly blocked for three and a half hours following the crash.

The motorcyclist may be identified after police notify the man's next of kin.
