Easy-to-fix leaks in a typical Bellevue home can waste more than 10,000 gallons of water every year, and raise a homeowner’s water and wastewater bills. As part of Fix-A-Leak Week, March 14–20, Bellevue homeowners will receive toilet leak detection kits in the mail.
Leaks in a toilet alone, one of the most common types of leaks, can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day. Most leaks are easy to fix, but finding them is the first step. The mailers include dye strips and simple instructions on how to check toilets for leaks.
The leak detection kits come from Bellevue and the Cascade Water Alliance, an organization that provides water to Bellevue and seven other cities and water districts in the Puget Sound region. Information on repairing a leaking toilet and other conservation programs can be found at www.cascadewater.org
