Daniel Ochoa is a brilliant painter with a mature vision, which he uses to illustrate a point that is both relevant and passionate.
It is not easy to claim, nor is it easy for an artist to be, a brilliant painter. Brilliance in and of its self is hard to define. Brilliance as it pertains to art is certainly subjective and belongs solely to the viewer. Many successful arguments have been made for the brilliance of Saville, Kanevsky and many modern figure and portrait painters. The case is made by examining a refined brush stroke, displaying a clear understanding of form and composition and evidencing an ability to edit ones self.
The case for Daniel Ochoa is a simple one. It includes all of the above qualities and adds what I feel is most critical in Ochoa’s work… relevance.
