"Richard's Run" 5K through Medina Saturday To Raise Money to Help Child Cancer Patients

The fundraising run will take place between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Saturday. Expect traffic impacts going in and out of Medina.

Runners and walkers will lace up to benefit young cancer patients during the Richard's Run/Walk 5K Bellevue.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, joggers, walkers and supporters of every age will rock Medina with the energy to stomp out childhood cancers and raise funds for Go4theGoal Foundation's support of the Pediatric Oncology Unit at .

The USATF Certified race starts at 8:30 a.m. at 8398 Northeast 12th Street, Medina. Participant check-in starts at 7 a.m. The finish line will be at , NE 12th & 82nd Ave NE, Medina.

Pre-race Online registration is available at Active.com: http://www.active.com/running/medina-wa/richards-run-bellevue-5k-runwalk-2011.  Day-of registration and chip/bib/t-shirt pick-up begins at 7:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.  The race will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Medina police officials warn motorists driving in and out of the city to expect traffic impacts between 8:30 and 10 a.m.

An Awards Ceremony, exhibitor and sponsor giveaways, Live Music and fun family activities will take place after the run.

The Go4theGoal Foundation (www.Go4theGoal.org) is a New Jersey-based nonprofit founded by Dr. Richard and Beth Stefanacci, soon after their oldest child was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. The organization provides families dealing with childhood cancer with financial assistance, runs fun hospital-based programs, grants special wishes and supplies Apple iPads, iPods and MacBooks to children and pediatric oncology units in more than 20 hospitals across the country, according to the Go4theGoal press release.

Traffic impacts

Below are directions on how to navigate the City with as little delay as possible:

To EXIT Medina if you live north of NE 8th you will have to travel southbound on Evergreen Point Road and then eastbound on NE 8th. Vehicles exiting from NE 14th, NE 16th, NE 18th, and NE 22nd will be permitted to turn onto southbound Evergreen Point Road as breaks in the race participants allow.

If you live north of NE 24th, you will be directed up to Evergreen Point Road where you will head south to NE 8th.

To ENTER Medina if you are going north of NE 8th you will want to use NE 24th and then proceed south or northbound on Evergreen Point Road to reach your destination. You will be able to turn from Evergreen Point Road onto NE 10th, NE 14th, NE 16th, NE 18th and NE 22nd.  If you are headed westbound on NE 24th you will not be permitted to cross the eastbound lane of traffic. You will have to go up to Evergreen Point Road and then access that area off of either NE 22nd or NE 16th.
