Flammable cargo will be prohibited from traveling through the I-90 tunnels this week.
Crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will be replacing the environmental and fire control systems inside both the Mount Baker tunnel and Mercer Island lid.
Restrictions on flammable cargo will be in place from 6 a.m.. Tuesday, Sept. 27 until 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28. Drivers transporting flammable materials across Lake Washington need to use alternate routes such as I-405, State Route 520 or SR 522. Drivers transporting flammable materials on westbound I-90 must exit ay Island Crest Way, (Exit # 7) on Mercer Island. Eastbound drivers transporting flammable materials must exit at Rainier Ave South (Exit #3) in Seattle.
