Stokes-Laing Bellevue Council Race Fits Conditions for Machine Recount

John Stokes leads Aaron Laing by 110 votes -- 50.03 percent to 49.67 percent -- in the close race for the Bellevue City Council seat to be vacated by Grant Degginger.

In Monday night's last general election count before certification, Bellevue City Council candidate John Stokes leads Aaron Laing by 110 votes -- 50.03 percent to 49.67 percent -- in the close race for the seat that will be vacated by Grant Degginger.

The conditions for a mandatory machine recount are triggered if the difference between the two candidates is fewer than 2,000 votes and the difference between the two candidates is less than half a percent, according to elections officials. Both conditions fit Monday night's results.

Decisions on recounts will be made after the results are certified Tuesday morning, according to the King County Elections Office.
