EVERETT, WA — Everett Community College's campus was locked down early Monday, after the campus received an anonymous threat online.

"EvCC's main campus in Everett is in lockdown due to a threat to campus," the school tweeted just after 7: 30 a.m. "Not a drill. Lock doors. Seek shelter. Avoid being seen or heard."

Shortly afterwards, the Everett Police Department confirmed that officers were on scene and investigating an email threat to the college. Police said the campus was locked down "out of an abundance of caution" as there did not appear to be any active threat in the area. After a quick sweep of the campus, officers say they confirmed there was no active threat to staff or students, but they continue to investigate the threatening emails.

The lockdown was officially lifted by 9 a.m. but the campus remained closed for the day. Online classes will continue as scheduled, the school said, and employees are being encouraged to work remotely if possible. All EvCC events scheduled for Monday have also been cancelled.

According to an update from the school, teachers first received the treat at around 8 p.m. Sunday. It had been mailed to multiple college offices, but was only discovered Monday morning. The FBI has also been alerted.
