Former Snohomish Insurance Agent Sentenced For Wire Fraud

OLYMPIA, WA — A former insurance agent has been sentenced to serve time behind bars after pleading guilty to charges of federal wire fraud.

The criminal case began in 2017, when Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler's investigators discovered Vicki Boser, of Snohomish, had been signing policies on behalf of clients without their knowledge, overcharged other clients, made and sold phony certificates of insurance, and stole insurance premium payments from insurance clients.

Boser owned and operated InsuranceTek, Inc., which helped small businesses in high-risk fields find and buy insurance. Her clients had included private investigators, process servers, mortgage and field service companies, and security guard companies, Kriedler's office said.

Following the investigation, Kreidler revoked her license. She was then served federal charges, and pleaded guilty to wire fraud in August of this year.

Boser was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Seattle on Tuesday. She'll serve two years in prison, followed by three more years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $273,137 in restitution to eight clients she defrauded between 2014 and 2016.

Though Boser stole an exceptionally large amount of money, insurance fraud is far from uncommon. Kreidler's office says insurance fraud costs the average Washington family between $400 and $700 per year in increased premiums. Insurance companies are required by law to report fraud to the commissioner's office, but consumers can also report suspected insurance fraud online.
