📰 News we're reading

• Edmonds adopts Critical Areas Ordinance with new aquifer area restrictions (heraldnet.com) — Edmonds residents should know the City Council has narrowly approved new Critical Areas Ordinance rules that restrict stormwater wells near the Deer Creek aquifer, the city’s main drinking water source. Supporters say the move better protects against PFAS contamination, while some staff and councilmembers warn it could complicate development and invite legal challenges as the city pursues further study.

• Three South County Fire Commissioners sworn in (myedmondsnews.com) — South County Fire has sworn in three commissioners, including a newly elected representative for District 1, which covers nearby communities many Edmonds residents rely on for fire and emergency services. The board also selected its chair and vice chair and outlined how residents can attend regular and work-session meetings in person or online.

• Upcoming closures on the 1 Line throughout January (myedmondsnews.com) — Light rail riders traveling between Edmonds and Seattle will face several weekend and late-night disruptions on Sound Transit’s 1 Line throughout January, with buses replacing trains between Capitol Hill and SODO during key maintenance windows. Trains will still run every 15 minutes between Lynnwood and Capitol Hill, helping Edmonds commuters connect, but riders should plan for about 30 extra minutes and watch for playoff-related adjustments.
