A private boat accidentally dumped more thanΒ 100 gallons of diesel fuel into Gig Harbor on Saturday morning.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessel's owner intended to fill the boat's water tank, however, water was inadvertently added to the fuel tank resulting in diesel fuel overflowing into the harbor at about 9 a.m.
Gig Harbor police and fire were dispatched to the spill but aΒ private contractor was responsible for the final cleanup, which wrapped up around 4 p.m.
The boat owner will be responsible for the contractor costs but will likely get off with a warning, because it was deemed to be an accident.Β
