Does Seattle Have the Best Summer Weather in the US?

A new rating from Bert Sperling's "Best Places" series places the Puget Sound region at the top of the list for cool and comfortable summer weather. But does that make it the best?

The "chill cities" list ranks the top 50 U.S. metro areas based on factors such as daytime high temperatures, nighttime lows, relative humidity and dew point. Following behind Seattle are Portland, Ore., San Francisco, Denver and San Jose, Calif. At the bottom of the list? Texas' four biggest metro areas, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Of course, not everyone equates "cool" and "comfortable" with "best summer weather." Despite the abundance of sunshine so far this summer, a cloudy spell in July or even August is definitely not unheard of around here.

But, in a recent blog post, University of Washington weather guru Cliff Mass outlines his own argument that Seattle has the best summer weather in the country. Along with factors like mild temperatures and low humidity, Mass cites the lack of severe summer storms, long daylight hours and relative few mosquitos.
