GIG HARBOR, WA β€” A driver was shaken but unhurt after crashing into a Gig Harbor home Tuesday morning, according to Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One officials. The incident is not considered suspicious in nature, and impairment was not a factor.

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One spokeswoman Tina Curran said the driver mistook the accelerator for the brake when pulling up to a friend's home just after 11 a.m. May 28. Inadvertently lurching forward, the driver's vehicle plowed through the awning support beams and came to rest on the home's front porch.

No one was home at the time of the crash, Curran said.

After arriving at the scene, crews quickly shored up the awning to ensure it didn't collapse while firefighters extricated the driver from the stuck vehicle, Curran said, adding it's really lucky the awning didn't fall onto the car after the crash.

The incident occurred in the neighborhood near 42nd Street Court and Reid Drive northwest, Curran said, noting the driver and homeowners are friends.

The whole ordeal β€” from dispatch to towing the vehicle off the property β€” took about an hour and a half, Curran said.
