The Fox Island United Church of Christ holds its annual Boat-In Church Service Sunday, August 21, 10am on the waterfront at the historic Fox Island Chapel on Echo Bay, 400 Sixth Ave, F.I., and the public is invited. Boaters are welcome to raft up near the shoreline and participate in the church service with congregants seated on the waterfront yard.
The Boat-In tradition is maintained by the FIUCC congregation, who chartered as a Congregational Church on the island in 1892 and built their little chapel on the shores of Sylvan in 1900. The members sold the historic chapel to the community in 2000 in order to build their larger, expanded facility at the top of the island, and return once every summer to reconnect with their history and island neighbors in this special church service.
