Package Thief Caught On Camera In Gig Harbor: Police

Police have asked the community for help identifying a woman who reportedly stole a package and two statues from a porch in Gig Harbor.

GIG HARBOR, WA — With holiday package deliveries picking up across the nation, it seems nowhere is safe from so-called porch pirates — not even Gig Harbor.

Police Chief Kelly Busey on Tuesday shared images from a home surveillance video depicting a woman who allegedly stole a package and two statues from a porch in Gig Harbor earlier this month. He hopes someone in the community will recognize either the woman or her truck and help police solve this crime.

The theft reportedly occurred Nov. 16, though the crime wasn't reported until Nov. 24, Busey told Patch. The intended recipient reportedly had to figure out what exactly happened to the package before filing a report.

In the video the female suspect is seen driving slowly by the front of the home before parking, exiting the vehicle, approaching the front door and swiping the package, along with two dog statues.

Altogether, Busey estimates the thief took about $250 worth of personal property.

The suspect's vehicle, Busey said, is possibly a Dodge Ram pickup.

Anyone who recognizes the woman or the truck is encouraged to call Gig Harbor police at 253-851-2236 and reference case number 18 328 01467.

With package deliveries and porch thefts increasing in tandem, police across Pierce County advise residents to make adjustments to how they receive their holiday packages.
