State To Begin Highway 16 Closures Monday, Tuesday

Motorists will find eastbound State Route 16 closed tonight, tomorrow night and several nights next week for continued work to deliver and set girders in the Interstate 5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley construction project.

The girders are being placed for three bridges:

1. The new permanent eastbound SR 16 viaduct
2. The South Sprague Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5
3. The South Sprague Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5.

At 11 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night, July 1-2, crews will close all eastbound SR 16 lanes at South Union Avenue, along with the South Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR 16. During the closures, traffic will be detoured via South Union Avenue. The lanes and ramp will reopen each following morning by 4 a.m.

At 9 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night, crews will also close South Tacoma Way between South Pine Street and South Wilkeson Street. South Tacoma Way will reopen by 4:30 a.m. each following morning. Motorists will be detoured via South Center Street.

From Monday through Thursday, July 8-11, crews will once again close all eastbound SR 16 lanes at South Union Avenue, along with the South Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR 16. During the closures, traffic will be detoured via South Union Avenue. The lanes and ramp will reopen each following morning by 4 a.m.

At 9 p.m. those same nights, crews will close South Center Street between South Pine Street and South Wilkeson Street, and detour traffic onto South Tacoma Way. South Center Street will reopen at 4:30 a.m. each following morning.

Similar closures will be announced throughout the summer as this phase of construction is completed.
