Tacoma General Hospital has beenΒ rankedΒ No. 7 in Washington stateΒ as part of U.S. News & World Report'sΒ annualΒ Best Hospitals survey.
The publication says its rankings were devised using patient death rates and physician surveys, among other factors. Nearly 4,800 hospitals around the nation were evaluated in 16 medical specialties, and the facilities designated as high performing in at leastΒ one of these areas were ranked at the state or regional level.
Tacoma General tied seventh with Stevens Healthcare in Edmonds.

It performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals in 5 adult specialties, as shown below. Tacoma General Hospital has 420 beds. The hospital had 18,302 admissions in the latest year for which data are available. It performed 4,737 annual inpatient and 10,016 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 65,182 visits."
University of Washington Medical Center topped the list for Washington state, followed by EvergreenHealth Medical Center at No. 2 and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital in Spokane at No. 3. Harborview Medical Center and Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane rounded out the top five.
