Please save the date so you can join us at the City of Lakewood’s 11th annual Parks Appreciation Day celebration, Saturday, April 21, 2012. We are planning projects at Fort Steilacoom Park, Harry Todd Park, American Lake Park and Wards Lake Park. Join us between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon as we participate in a county-wide Parks Appreciation Day and jointly celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day and National Parks Week.
You should dress appropriately for the weather; bring clearly-labeled hand tools from home (including such things as pruners, gloves, rakes, shovels, small pitch forks) and your enthusiasm, smiles and energy! This is a FUN event in the outdoors and you’ll be able to help prepare our local parks for the busy spring/summer seasons.
Last year, over 400 volunteers participated in this event and planted hundreds of flowers; 28 bushes and rhododendrons; laid mulch on trails and flower beds; laid playground fall zone chips and filled dumpsters with debris. The list is endless for the projects we’ve completed on previous Parks Appreciation Days. This year, new projects are planned to improve our local parks. We need your help.
