JBLM Announces Day And Nighttime Artillery Training

Neighbors can expect to hear some extra noise starting Monday evening.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Residents of Lakewood who live near Joint Base Lewis-McChord will want to prepare for some extra noise this week.

The base announced Sunday that it will be conducting artillery and mortar training starting at 6 p.m. Monday, and lasting all the way through 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

During artillery training, JBLM Army units fire live munitions into a designated "artillery impact area" on JBLM's main campus.

As longtime residents are no doubt aware, those artillery shells can cause some noise for the surrounding area.

More on the training and the potential noise can be found on JBLM's website. Neighbors who think their property has been damaged by JBLM training events can also call 253-477-1878 or 253-477-1877 to file a claim.
