JBLM Announces Weekend Mortar Training Session
Anyone who lives near Joint Base Lewis-McChord can expect some more noise for the next few days.
LAKEWOOD, WA — Residents of Lakewood who live near Joint Base Lewis-McChord will want to prepare for some extra noise as we head into the weekend.
The base announced Thursday that they will be conducting day and nighttime mortar training starting at 5:30 a.m. Friday, and lasting all the way through midnight the following day.
During mortar and artillery training, JBLM Army units fire live munitions into a designated "artillery impact area" on JBLM's main campus.

As longtime residents are no doubt aware, those artillery shells can cause some noise for the surrounding area.
More on the training and the potential noise can be found on JBLM's website. Neighbors who think their property has been damaged by JBLM training events can also call 253-477-1878 or 253-477-1877 to file a claim.
