Lakewood Apartment Fire Leaves 3 Without Home
One occupant was injured and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.
LAKEWOOD, WA — One person is in the hospital and three are without their home after an apartment fire in Lakewood this weekend.
According to firefighters with West Pierce Fire and Rescue, the blaze happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday evening. The fire started in the bedroom of an apartment in a complex at the 8400 block of Phillips Road SW.
Before firefighters arrived, several neighbors reportedly tried to stamp out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but it continued to spread. Firefighters pulled up not long after, and managed to contain the fire to the first unit.

Three occupants resided inside the unit, which firefighters say is now unlivable. One person was also injured in the incident, and transported to a nearby hospital. The Red Cross has been notified, and will help the three displaced residents find new temporary lodging.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
