Lakewood To Hold Public Workshops On Point Defiance Bypass Starting Wednesday

The first workshop is for properties adjacent to the railroad tracks that will carry Amtrack trains from the city's northerly city limits to 108th Street SW.

The City of Lakewood is conducting public workshops to review the current status of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Point Defiance Rail Bypass Project (PDRB).

This project proposes to reroute Amtrak passenger trains to an existing inland rail line route along the west side of I-5 through south Tacoma, Lakewood, and DuPont. When completed, it would bring a total of seven daily round trip passenger trains through Tacoma, Lakewood, and DuPont intersections, with an average crossing time of 45 seconds per intersection and a maximum speed of 79 mph.

The first workshop is for those properties adjacent to the railroad tracks from the city’s northerly city limits to 108th Street SW.

The workshop shall be conducted on August 21, 2013, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at Lakewood City Hall City Council Chambers, 6000 Main Street SW.

Additional workshops and meetings are scheduled in the coming weeks. For additional information, please contact Becky Newton, Economic Development Specialist at (253) 983-7738, or e-mail at  beckynewton@cityoflakewood.us .
