Parkland Standoff: Man Armed With Machete Breaks Into Building

One suspect has been arrested after a brief standoff with deputies in Parkland Thursday.

PARKLAND, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department has reopened a closed neighborhood in Parkland after taking an armed suspect into custody.

According to deputies, that suspect broke into a building on 131st St S in Parkland sometime before noon.

Deputies closed 131st between Pacific Ave S and A St S while they handled the incident, but shortly after the closure they say negotiators convinced the suspect to surrender, and he has been taken into custody. Investigators say the man had suffered minor injuries during the break in, and is receiving medical treatment before officers book him into the Pierce County Jail.
