State Sen. Mike Carrell - who has been diagnosed with the blood condition Myelodysplastic syndrome - is expected to receive a bone marrow transplant from his brother, the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce says.

The Chamber posted on its Facebook page that the Lakewood Republican from the 28th District would not be able to attend its Eggs & Issues event Tuesday. The state senator recently was released from the hospital, according to The Associated Press.

But the Chamber posted that there is some good news: "We just found out that his brother is a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant. Our prayers are with Senator Carrell as he struggles with his health."
