Sixteen Clover Park School District Teachers Complete Take One! Program
The teachers who got their certification range from elementary, middle and high school teachers in the district that covers Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Congratulations to 16 teachers from across the district who recently completed their Take One! Program.
Take One! is a professional development program from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards that allows teachers to prepare and submit one, pre-selected video portfolio entry from any of the current certificate areas of National Board Certification. A teacher can later transfer the score if s/he pursues National Board candidacy.

In Clover Park, more than 95 percent of current National Board Candidates completed Take One! before beginning national board candidacy.
Take One! participants met for over 40 hours over the course of a school year to prepare and submit their entries in April. The Take One! cohort support group is similar to a writer’s workshop, where candidates collaboratively brainstorm writing ideas and then give each other constructive feedback on written entries and videos. Additionally, candidates may submit their entries to the cohort facilitator for expert feedback.

Clover Park teachers who pursue either Take One! or full National Board Certification have a network of 100, in-district National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) who generously read entries, watch videos and give constructive feedback.
Each teacher’s entry is scored externally by at least two NBCTs working in the same certification area. Scores range from 1 to 4, with a passing score being 2.75. Our 16 teachers who currently completed Take One! averaged a score of 2.7, with more than half of them scoring 3.0 or above.
Take One! is available to all teachers, regardless of years of experience. District cohorts form in late September.
Participants pay the Take One! fee of $395 and financial aid is available on a limited basis.
