WA Capitol Campus Prepares For 2 COVID-Related Protests: Reports
Washington State Patrol troopers are preparing to secure the campus, as the two protests may draw thousands of attendees.
OLYMPIA, WA — The state is giving up on the mask mandate, vaccine verification requirements, and other COVID-19 safety protocols, but some people still aren't satisfied.
Washington State Patrol is preparing for a pair of large protests at the Capitol Campus on Saturday. Thousands of people are expected to attend and voice their grievances against the state's COVID-19 safety restrictions.
As The News Tribune first reported, the first rally will start at noon on the South Lawn near the Tivoli Fountain. Around 2,500 people are expected to attend, according to the a state estimate. The rally was organized by the Coalition of Patriot Organizations, whose website argues that COVID-19 safety restrictions like social distancing "violate [your] Constitutional rights."

The other protest has been described as a "trucker convoy" similar to the Canadian convoy that has been drawing headlines across the country over recent weeks. Like the first protest, the convoy also argues that COVID-19 safety restrictions were a constitutional violation. It is unclear when that protest will arrive or how many attendees it will include.
Washington State Patrol officials say they are aware of both protests, and preparing for their arrival.

"WSP will work with Capitol Security and Visitor Services as well as local law enforcement to have appropriate service and response capacity so all campus users enjoy a safe visit as well as their protected rights of free speech and assembly," said Chris Loftis, WSP Director of Communications in a statement obtained by FOX13.
Several portions of the campus will be closed, The News Tribune reported, including the Flag Circle, and portions of Cherry Land and Water Street.
