WSP Seeks Witnesses To I-5 Shooting In Tacoma
Just before 11 p.m. Monday, the driver opened fire on another vehicle on southbound I-5. Investigators are hoping someone saw it happen.
TACOMA, WA — The Washington State Patrol is hoping to hear from witnesses to a recent shooting on I-5 in central Tacoma.
According to investigators, the incident happened around 10:39 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9. That's when a black Toyota was traveling on southbound I-5, just north of the interchange with SR-16. Investigators say the Toyota swerved across several lanes of traffic, pulling in front of a red Mazda. The Mazda eventually pulled forward and, as the cars were side by side, the Toyota driver drew a gun, and fired at leas two shots. One hit the Mazda's rear passenger door.
The black Toyota then pulled off of I-5 and onto SR-16 westbound.

The Mazda driver was unharmed, but troopers are hoping to track down the Toyota driver so nothing like this happens again. His car has been described as a black Toyota with a luggage rack, with a "Get in Go" sticker near its rear license plate and a white sticker on the driver's side. Investigators say they think it pulled on to the freeway from Port of Tacoma Road just a few minutes before the shooting.
Anyone who saw the incident or who knows more about the missing Toyota is asked to call WSP's Det. Kevin Pratt at 253-538-3173.
