4 Killed In Tacoma Shooting, No Arrests Made

"As we learn more, we as a community will find our way through this together," the mayor said in a statement Friday morning.

TACOMA, WA β€” Four people have died after a shooting in east Tacoma Thursday evening.

The Tacoma Police Department reported the incident just before 5:30 p.m., saying their officers had been dispatched to a shooting at a complex near 4200 Everett St, in Tacoma's Salishan neighborhood.

By the time officers arrived, they found two women and one man dead. A fourth, an adult man, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but passed away shortly afterwards. None of the victims have been identified, though late Friday police did list their ages as:

  • A 22-year-old male.
  • A 19-year-old male.
  • A 22-year-old female.
  • A 42-year-old female.

No suspects have been arrested, and it remains unknown what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. Tacoma PD told KOMO news that they weren't yet clear if there was more than one shooter.

β€œThis is a horrific crime,” said Tacoma Public Information Officer Wendy Haddow. β€œAt this time I cannot say whether there was one or multiple shooters.”

Early Friday, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards and Council Member Catherine Ushka issued a joint statement on the issue, expressing their condolences to the families of the victims and the whole Eastside community. It reads, in part:

"We want to acknowledge the tragic events that occurred late this afternoon and the four lives that were lost. We extend our sympathies to those directly impacted, the Eastside community, and all of Tacoma. While there are not a lot of details available on this incident right now, we reiterated yesterday, that we as a Council, place high value on community safety... ...We know our police will diligently collect the facts of this case. As we learn more, we as a community will find our way through this together."

The incident brings Tacoma's 2021 homicide count to 27, The News Tribune reported.
