Should the Puyallup Farmer's Market Open on Wednesdays, Instead of Sundays?

The Puyallup Main Street Association is contemplating shifting the Sunday Farmer's Market to a Wednesday 'twilight' event. What do you think?

The Puyallup Farmer's Market is one of the biggest weekend draws in Puyallup, but Sundays are pretty quiet, said Jenn Rinehart from the Puyallup Main Street Association.

"Sunday just doesn't pay for itself or even cover the costs of renting the Pavilion, so continuing to have the Market on that day just seems silly," Rinehart said.

Next season, the group is considering cutting the Sunday event in favor of opening the market on Wednesday afternoon and early evening, as sort of a mid-week "twilight" event.

The Farmer's Market just wrapped up it's last weekend this month and will reopen next April.

"To me it just doesn't make sense to do all your shopping on the weekend anyway. That's not how people typically shop, I don't think," said Rinehart. "You need a couple days to go through grocery items and then go again later in the week."

The Pioneer Park Pavilion is available to rent on Wednesday evenings and vendors could have full access to the kitchen and restroom facilities, plus cover for inclement weather.

A Wednesday night Farmer's Market is still an open question and nothing is decided yet, said Rinehart. Right now, the Puyallup Main Street Association is looking for some feedback from the public on what they'd like to see and posted the question on their Facebook page earlier today.

At publication, 104 fans of the page "liked" the status and it has 45 comments, ranging from "great idea!" to "try advertising Sundays more."

"We're open to ideas and are just looking for more ways to reach more people," said Rinehart.
