Two New K-9 Units Hit Puyallup Streets

Maverick and Marshall are the newest additions to the Puyallup K-9 police force.

The Puyallup Police force has two new officers on the beat - K-9 units Maverick and Marshall.

Marshall and Maverick have completed 400 hours of training with their handlers, Officers Kevin Karuzas and Matthew Hurley. Only one out of 100 dogs who try out for the force make the team.

Marshall is taking over for Chance, a beloved K-9 who died unexpectedly this last June. Maverick replaces Daro, who is entering retirement after 10 years.

The two German Shepards were selected to join the force after demonstrating sharp abilities to track, attack and let go on command. Over the 400 hours of training, the dogs went out at night to learn honing skills of sight and sound to track criminals and sniff out illegal drugs.

In their off-time, Marshall and Maverick will live with their handlers and be part of the family.
