• Redmond officers purchase jacket and snow pants for man accused of shoplifting (kiro7.com) — Redmond police and fire crews recently helped a homeless man accused of shoplifting by getting him medical care and buying him warm clothing for the cold weather. Officers emphasized that the theft case will still move forward in court, but said they aimed to balance accountability with compassion for his immediate needs. 
• Precious metals tax to hit Washington businesses (komonews.com) — A new Washington tax on precious metals and coins is raising costs for buyers and dealers, and a Redmond Rare Coins owner fears it could wipe out coin shows and shrink her already thin margins. She plans to keep the Redmond storefront but pivot toward wholesale sales, while joining a statewide association pushing lawmakers to repeal the tax.
