In recognition of National Food Bank Day, the city’s Recreation and Neighborhoods Division, along with the Renton Chamber of Commerce is asking for your help to fill the truck for local food banks.

Drop off nonperishable, unopened food items to the Renton Community Center (1715 Maple Valley Hwy) on Friday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All food will be donated to local food banks who are feeding local families in need.

Vehicles can enter the community center’s main entrance off Maple Valley Highway. City staff and volunteers will wear masks for a contact-free donation drop off. Together, we can make a positive difference in our community!

Ask Renton PD

Do you have any questions you want to ask the Renton Police Department? RPD has started a new video series called “Have a Question? Ask Renton PD.”

Perhaps you have wondered why sometimes there are two or more police cars at a traffic stop? Maybe you would like to know how long it takes someone to become a Renton officer? Each month, one question will be selected to be answered in a video. Responses may include demonstrations and scenarios, giving you an up-close look at police operations. Learn more about Ask Renton PD or email your questions directly to the department.

Farmers Market Update

Join us as we kick off the last month of the 2020 Renton Farmers Market season! This week, shop fresh apricots, blackberries, peaches, melons, beets, cabbage, eggplant, garlic, green beans, flowers, herbs, baked goods, jam and more.

To avoid the line, shop a bit later! While the market is open from 3 to 7 p.m. in downtown Renton, there are little to no lines after 5 p.m. Remember to wear your mask, send one shopper per household if possible and maintain social distancing while inside the market.

Benson Mural Update

If you didn’t get the chance last week to get a first look at the Benson Mural Project, we have another opportunity for you! Tonight, Tuesday, September 1, at 6:30 p.m., check out the mural design and give the artist feedback. We will also be exploring the ways community members can have their artwork incorporated into the mural. This will be our last community meeting for the Benson Mural Project, so don’t miss this chance to join your community in bringing this project to life. Register to receive the meeting information.
